HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. - Bearing the first fruit from its alliance with Intel Corp., Standard Microsystems Corp. (SMC) here today announced today the availability of production samples of its PC chip set line for Intel's Pentium II and III microprocessor lines.
SMC's new products include the Victory66 South Bridge and VictoryBX-66 Chipset. The VictoryBX-66 Chipset is a two-chip solution based on Intel's memory controller (North Bridge) and SMC's I/O controller. Meanwhile, the Victory66 SLC90E66 South Bridge is the first in a family of PCI-based I/O controllers.
The new products from SMC are part of a previously announced relationship with Intel, under which SMC will sell complete chip set solutions based on technology from the Santa Clara, Calif.-based company.
"The VictoryBX-66 chipset provides a significant performance improvement over what is currently the leading solution for high-end notebook computers," said Andrew Lambrecht, SMC's director of strategic marketing for chip set products.
"Because the Victory66 South Bridge and VictoryBX-66 Chipset can be used in existing notebook, desktop, and embedded designs, the performance improvements can significantly extend the life of these existing designs that make up the vast majority of motherboards being shipped today," he said.
The VictoryBX-66 Chipset is $29.00 in quantities of 10,000, while the Victory66 I/O controller (South Bridge) is $14.50 in quantities of 10,000. Production samples are now available.
